Progress

Everyone working on a project and all project stakeholders are concerned with progress. Progress is about comparing where you are in the project against key targets such as cost, time, quality, scope, benefits, and risk. Progress can be event-driven (i.e. a goal has been achieved) or it can be time-driven (i.e.  a timebox has passed).

Another key part of PRINCE2 is that it encourages larger projects to be broken up into stages. At the end of each stage the Project Board will review progress, compare it with the business case, and consider whether the project should proceed, change, or be cancelled.

Progress reports may include:

  • Checkpoint Reports (from the Team Leader to the Project Manager),
  • Highlight Reports (from the Project Manager to the Board and Stakeholders)
  • End of Stage Reports (from the Project Manager at the end of a planned stage)
  • End Project Report (from the Project manager at the end of the project)
