Bathurst, NB – Located in the heart of downtown Bathurst, Ampere’s Makerspace is a welcoming community hub where curiosity sparks creativity. Through STEAM-based camps, drop-ins, and hands-on activities, people of all ages can explore new technologies, build digital and AI skills, and discover what’s possible.
For this year’s Hospitality Days festival, we collaborated with incredible local partners to welcome community members of all ages to connect, learn, and create together.
Family STEAM, Hospitality Days Edition:
with guest facilitators from the Multicultural Association of Chaleur Region.
Families explored a variety of self-paced STEAM-centered activities, from pixel art challenges to block coding, engineering with Lego to freestyle crafting.
Seamanship Simplified: Learning the Ropes
with guest instructor Lt(N) Josh MacKenzie of RCSCC 275 Chaleur.
Participants learned a variety of knot-tying skills through hands-on activities and ended with a fun group challenge!
Picture This! Creating Keepsakes
with guest instructor, local author and digital scrapbook expert Carole Asselin of Scrapbook Campus.
Attendees learned the basics of Affinity while creating custom postcards.
Lemonade Party
with guest instructors from local non-profit organization Nursing Homes Without Walls.
Community members made and sipped a cool, refreshing glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade, then enjoyed a variety of board games and puzzles.
Fun with Micro:bits
with guest instructors Shane and Curtis from Ulnooweg Education.
Everyone learned the basics of block coding with Makecode, then built a mini game, then learned how to send wireless messages through Micro:Bits!
Coding & Communication
with guest instructor Patrick Beeson, local inventor.
After enjoying a demonstration of Patrick’s proprietary design of an Automated Underwater Vehicle, participants learned basic programming skills through hands-on coding activities.
3D Printed Figurine Painting
a partner activity with Layers 3D Print Studio.
The community joined us to paint unique figurines, created and provided by Layers 3D Print Studio, as one-of-a-kind festival souvenirs.
We had a marvelously busy festival week, and we would like to thank our community partners for helping us spark curiosity and inspire smiles with everyone who visited with their expertise and passion!
Even though Hospitality Days is over, the fun continues at the Bathurst Makerspace; our ever-popular free summer camps are in full swing, with only a few spaces left available. For information or to register, visit go.amp.ca/bathurstyouth.
Our free Family STEAM Drop Ins (all ages, under 12 with an adult) continue through July and August, every Monday from 2:30pm-4:30pm.
If you’re aged 50+ and looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy some puzzles and games with friends, our free Silver & Gold Social runs each Wednesday from 1:30pm-3:30pm.

For over a decade, Ampere (formerly the Pinnguaq Association) has partnered with rural, remote and Indigenous communities to provide access to science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) education and opportunities.
