Closing a Project - Ampere Association

Closing a Project

Every project ends as it is a temporary piece of work to deliver a product or service. When a project has succeeded in developing and delivering the expected outcomes, the Closing a Project process is triggered. The Closing a Project process is important for the Project Board, and for stakeholders as it indicates that the project is near completion or complete.

Key Activities

  • Prepare planned closure by ensuring acceptance criteria is reviewed and confirmed
  • Hand over products
  • Evaluate the project
  • Recommend project closure to the Project Board for approval

In cases where projects are closed early (for example if the Business Case is no longer viable), the Project Manager will also prepare for premature closure and salvage any items of value that can still be delivered to the client.
