Today’s workforce is diverse and constantly changing. It’s essential for employers to be intentional and inclusive. This course will help you, as an employer within Canada, understand how Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) principles apply in your workplace and the community businesses you serve.

You will engage in activities, learn from real examples, and reflect on key concepts to build a solid understanding of DEI. You will look at demographics, identify equity gaps, and explore inclusive hiring practices, policy development and community partnerships. This course provides the tools and knowledge needed to create a workplace that is inclusive, fair and representative of Canada’s diverse workforce.

Course Learning Objectives

The course is divided into 6 lessons.

  • Describe the core concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and explain how they relate to the workplace and community.
  • Analyze your local community’s demographics to identify underrepresented groups and explore opportunities to engage them in your business.
  • Identify inclusive workplace practices, recognize gaps in your current approach, and explore opportunities to improve equity and accessibility.
  • Evaluate real-world scenarios and case studies to identify successful DEI practices and consider how they can be applied in your workplace.
  • Develop a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Action Plan tailored to your organization’s needs.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of DEI concepts and employer responsibilities through a final assessment applying key course learnings.
