The manufacturing sector is thriving – can you thrive along with it? Ampere, with funding from the Government of Ontario, is here to introduce you to the opportunities available in manufacturing as an employee or entrepreneur – You can make it, in the Kawartha Lakes.

Ampere’s Kawartha Makes Program

Kawartha Makes offers an introduction to the manufacturing sector for job seekers and entrepreneurs, featuring visits to local manufacturing facilities (from factory to boutique), presentations from industry experts and classroom-based education focused on key digital skills.

It includes:

  • 8-weeks of in-person learning at Ampere’s Lindsay Makerspace.
  • Subsequent paid internships for 10 participants with local manufacturers and/or ongoing support for participants interested in launching a manufacturing business.
  • Weekly stipends, childcare support, and funds to purchase workwear.
  • Introductions to the manufacturing sector, key digital skills and job preparedness.
  • Hands-on, project-based education using state-of-the-art manufacturing tools.
  • Visits to local manufacturers of all shapes and sizes.

Up to 10 participants will be placed in 12 week paid internships with local manufacturers, to help them build experience and launch their careers.

Internship:

Participants will be placed in a paid internship of up to 12 weeks with an employer in an in-demand or emerging market. Historically, a very high percentage of Ampere’s internship program participants have continued to ongoing employment in the same role.

  • Introduction to manufacturing processes, machinery, and safety procedures
  • 2D design with Onshape
  • Micro-manufacturing techniques
  • Career pathways in manufacturing
  • Bringing your product to market

Kawartha Makes Details

There are two groups, starting at different times, and occurring on different days:

Date and Time:
Group 1: August 11 – October 6, Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly, 5-8 pm
Group 2: September 22-November 10, Mondays and Wednesdays weekly, 5-8 pm

Eligibility:
Aged 15-29
Living in or around the Kawartha Lakes region

Location: Ampere Makerspace, 12 Peel Street, Lindsay

Stipend:
$150 weekly for all participants

Childcare:
Support provided, up to $500

Allowances:
Additional funding available for the purchase of workwear, up to $520
