Bathurst, NB – Ampere offers digital skills and STEAM education programming for people at every age and every stage of life, including seniors.
That’s why, on August 26th, staff from our Bathurst Makerspace was proud to be an exhibitor at the inaugural Aging Well Community Expo, hosted by our friends at Nursing Home Without Walls. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with aging community members, as well as the dedicated caregivers, businesses and organizations who support every day.

At the Aging Well Expo, Chelsey and Kath had loads of fun engaging with participants. They shared details about the Bathurst Makerspace’s upcoming programs, digital literacy support and creative workshops, and even led a lively round of “Bathurst Trivia”. We want to send special thanks to Warren, who travelled from Ampere’s headquarters in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario to join us. Having Warren there was an excellent chance to share some of Ampere’s story from a broader organizational perspective.
One of the best parts of community events are the unexpected connections that naturally unfold. We had a particularly fun moment when we learned that one of our trivia participants – a retired Librarian from our region – once babysat Lyse Doucet who grew up to become BBC’s Chief International Correspondent!
Learning about our community members, and listening to their stories was such a fulfilling and rewarding experience, and will help us to continue to shape our Makerspace and programming to support our region more fully into the future.
Participating in the Aging Well Community Expo also offered us a unique opportunity to learn from our fellow exhibitors. From mental health services to hearing loss support, accessible exercise resources to compassionate end-of-life care planning, the event proved to be a wealth of information, not just for seniors and those who love them, but for community members of any age.
